Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A 70-year-old man from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, is facing allegations of murdering two children of his business partner in a case of revenge following a dispute over a bangle factory partnership. The victims, Tamanna (12) and Shivpal (8), went missing on January 24 after leaving for school. Their bodies were found two days later, on January 26, in a rented house near a bangle factory in Boranada, Jodhpur.
The accused, Shyam Singh Bhati, had been in a business partnership with Pradeep Devasai, the children’s father, for nearly nine months. Bhati had invested money into the bangle factory, and Devasai worked there as a craftsman. However, Devasai severed the partnership due to personal reasons, leading to financial losses for Bhati. The dissolution of their business relationship reportedly caused Bhati to harbor resentment toward Devasai and his family.
On the day the children were reported missing, Bhati allegedly picked them up from school under the pretext of dropping them home but took them to his rented house located near his factory, which is in the vicinity of the Jain Temple in Boranada. Once there, Bhati killed the children and hanged their bodies. Police discovered a note at the scene in which Bhati confessed to the crime, citing the “betrayal” by Devasai as the motive for the murders. In the note, Bhati also mentioned his intent to take his own life, though he has not been located.
The children’s family filed a missing persons report on January 25, a day after they failed to return home. The two children attended school in Pal, and their disappearance prompted an immediate search by family members and local authorities. Following the discovery of the bodies, police confirmed that the children had been alive when they were picked up by Bhati, but additional details regarding their cause of death are under investigation.
Bhati is currently absconding, and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend him. Police have revealed that Bhati and Devasai had known each other for about 20 years, and that the partnership had been amicable before it ended. The authorities are continuing their investigation into the case, which has shocked both the local community and the victims’ family. The children’s family, originally from Uttar Pradesh, is grieving the loss of the two young victims, while the police search for Bhati.
